Colonel Steve and Linda Bauer

Houstonians Colonel Steve and Honorable Linda Bauer were honored as Literacy Advance's seventh Champions of Literacy recipients. Ann Criswell, retired Food Editor for the Houston Chronicle, served as Honorary Chair for the event.

Attendees bid on exciting auction items donated by restaurants and local chefs in order to raise funds for Literacy Advance. Both Colonel and Mrs. Bauer have authored several books and have recently coauthored Recipes from Historic Texas.

Literacy Advance Learner and Volunteer Tutor Francisco Hernandez shared his journey from being a Learner who could not communicate in English and taking classes to becoming a Tutor himself with his own class. Francisco is truly an example of the Laubach motto, "Each one, teach one."
