Dear Friends of Literacy,
As I struggle with how to open this letter to you, I realize that my struggle is not writer’s block but rather, a true loss of words. How does one write poignantly about gratitude, without the sentiment falling flat on the page?
Cindy certainly has it figured out!
It is with grace and vigor that Cindy infuses her appreciation into each sentence. And the real beauty is that at the end of her story, you want to say, “No Cindy, wait! We want to thank YOU!”
Volunteers like Sabrina will be the first to tell you that they get so much more than they give from their time in the classroom. It is difficult to capture and describe the heart-squeezing pride felt when one of our learners shares their latest triumphs.
I dare you to read Lisbeth’s story and not feel the tug at your heart.
So to every one of our learners, we humbly thank you. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to be a part of your stories. Our lives are better because you are in them and our hearts are bigger because you share your smiles with us.
And Cindy, we can’t wait to read that book of yours!

With endless bounds of gratitude,
Melanie Fisk, MSW, MBA,
Executive Director
