The mission of Literacy Advance of Houston (LAH) is to transform lives and communities through the doorway of literacy.

The student population at LAH is diverse and vibrant. 

Literacy Advance of Houston offers two main programs at no cost, English as a Second Language (ESL) and Adult Basic Education (ABE).  English as a Second Language students make up 74% of the student population and are characterized by the fact that English is not their native language. In contrast, students of Adult Basic Education, represent native English speakers who never learned to read or write properly.
