Volunteer
Tutors are the heart of our organization. Through their time and
efforts, many Houstonians improve their English skills. Previous
teaching experience is not required nor is a knowledge of another
language, only the desire to help someone improve their life.
"Volunteering at Literacy Advance of Houston has shown
me that I can make a difference in the world..."
Jennifer, Literacy Advance volunteer
All Volunteer Tutors attend a one day training workshop for ESL
(English as a Second Language) or for ABE (Adult Basic Education),
at no cost to the tutor.
Literacy Advance has an immediate need for volunteer tutors to
meet the growing demand for English language classes. Teaching experience
is not required to become a tutor, and tutors do not need to speak
a language other than English to qualify. Literacy Advance offers
tutoring opportunities at our main location on Wilcrest, in the
Bay Area, and a variety of community partners throughout Houston.
